Date: Friday 31st October 12pm - 5.00pm
Venue: GSK Human Performance Lab, Brentford

The GSK Human Performance Lab held its second symposium on October 31st, exploring the topic of sport performance in extreme environmental challenges. Helping guide the audience of our expert community through this topic, were six HPL internal and external speakers.

The speakers for this event included the HPL’s own Matthew Furber, providing insights in the challenges of ultra endurance in extreme environments, drawing on his own experiences supporting Shu Pillinger in her attempt to finish the Race Across America. Speakers also included Dr Kevin Currell from the English Institute of Sport, discussing hydration and fuelling challenges, and an insight into preparing intermittent athletes, such as football players, from James Collins of Performance Nutrition Ltd. GSK nutrition brand Maxinutrition sponsored a talk by Dr Oliver Witard from the University of Sterling allowed the audience to explore the role of protein during and after exercise in extreme environments.
