Watford FC today (31st March 2014) announced a new Partnership with the GSK Human Performance Lab to support the club’s senior squad with extensive performance science and research.

The GSK Human Performance Lab will use its scientific expertise and cutting edge technology to help Watford FC coaching staff develop individualised training and recovery strategies for all senior squad players.

Watford’s Commercial Director, Alan McTavish said “We are delighted to welcome the GSK Human Performance Lab into our Club Partner portfolio, it is fantastic to have such a world class facility, with its team of experts ready to assist and complement our own backroom team.” GSK Human Performance Lab sports scientists will measure the squads stress responses through hormone analysis both pre and post games. By assessing testosterone and cortisol ratios during differing training sessions the GSK Human Performance Lab scientists can then recommend adjustments to training and recovery strategies to ensure they are individualised to player needs.

Mark Langley, General Manager of the GSK Human Performance Lab, added: “It’s great to be working with Watford FC. Our aim is to give them a greater understanding of what can drive and improve their performance. All our partners benefit from the in-depth knowledge and understanding our scientists have in human performance, combined with the cutting edge technology and equipment we have at the facility.”

“Working with the GSK Human Performance Lab allows us to really understand the key drivers behind athletic performance on the pitch. Better understanding of the science behind performance will add to the processes we already have in place and will help our players to maximise their capabilities,” said Watford’s Head of Medical, Marco Cesarini.
